How many types of beams?

Warehouse storage racks are well-known for enhancing space utilization and efficiency in accessing goods in warehouses. However, many might not be familiar with the different types of beams used in these storage racks. Today, let’s introduce the four common types of beams found in warehouse shelving: square tube beams, P-type beams, composite beams, and clasp-welded beams.

1. Square Tube Beams: Among all the beam structures, the square tube beam is the simplest. It is a readily available profile on the market, and its structure looks like a square tube. Square tube beams can be used as support beams for shelves, connecting rods for shelves, and guardrails for platforms. They are the most common and simplest beam structures and are also the thinnest.

2. P-Type Beams: As the name suggests, P-type beams have a ‘P’ shaped structure, which is formed in one piece. The load-bearing capacity of P-type beams does not meet the standards for heavy-duty shelving. Typically, P-type beams are used in shelving systems that support less than one ton, which are often referred to as light-duty or medium-duty shelving.

3. Composite Beams: Composite beams have a better load-bearing capacity than P-type beams and are also formed in one piece. They have bends in the middle and weld points at the bottom to reinforce their shape. Composite beams are generally used as horizontal beams in shelving, crossbars in mezzanine platforms, and edge beams on platforms.

4. Clasp-Welded Beams: Clasp-welded beams consist of two C-shaped beams clasped together and then welded. They use more steel, resulting in a thicker structure with better load-bearing capacity than P-type beams.

The above are the four types of beam structures used in warehouse shelving. For more information about warehouse shelving, you can visit the official website of Massca Rack and shevels machinery.
